FS313 Mysticete Whale Jaw

200.0 cm. Long x 50.0 cm. Wide x 20.0 cm. High

Classification: Metazoa, Chordata, Mammalia, Cetacea, family, genus, sp.

Description: The rostral end of a baleen whale mandible, hard to gauge without the articulation surface, but it's most likely balaenopterid (rorqual whale) based on the size. Weighs approx. 150 - 200 lbs. Found in the Myrtle Beach area, 8 miles inland and 30 feet below the surface.

Age: Pliocene Epoch to Pleistocene
