Description: Glyptodont (Glyptotherium sp.) dermal scute (osteoderm). When living, each of the elements of the rosette pattern would have been covered by a thin keratinous scale, which does not fossilize. To see a variety of glyptodont osteoderms, click here. Warning! This is a large image (211k).
