Description: Eastern box turtle (Terrapene carolina) articulated epiplastron, entoplastron, and hyoplastron. This is the forward half of the turtle's lower shell. Notice the hinge that is formed by the rear edge of the hyoplastron (left edge in picture). Few turtle species have a hinged plastron.

Age: Miocene to Present.
