Announcing the
FossilWeb Museum of Paleontology

For years you and your fellow fossil fanatics have been submitting fossils for identification and you have been helping each other identify them. Then you, like me, probably put those fossils in a drawer or a box in the garage rarely to be seen again. A precious few may have made it to a place of honor on a curio shelf in the living room. At last you can share your finds with the world in the new FossilWeb Museum of Paleontology.

Now you can upload pictures of your fossils, along with information about them, to the FossilWeb collection. Then you can take a customized tour of the fossils in the collection to display fossils by taxonomy (phylum, class, order, etc.) by Geological period, location found, or discoverer. Just click on the Tour Museum link and you are on your way. I've started the collection with 158 fossils of my own, so now it's time for you to go out to the garage and dust off those hidden fossils. Then start taking digital photos of those special finds so you can share them with the world! To add one of your fossils to the collection, just click on the Add Specimen link and fill in the information. Please try to be as complete as you can as we build the first on-line Paleontological Museum of member-contributed specimens in the world! Is that cool or what?!

More improvements! In case you haven't visited FossilWeb in a while, you will also notice we now have a set of discussion boards called the Fossil Forum. There you can share information about fossil sites, learn more about preserving and displaying your fossils, or just discuss fossils in general. Since there are bound to be a few bugs in the new system, I've created a board on the Fossil Forum called "The Museum" so that you can let me know of any problems or suggestions you may have.

Until a few days ago if your email changed you had to email me to tell me about it or just open a new account with the new email address. In the process of cleaning up the database I see many of you have done just that; some of you have ten or more accounts! Now you can simply press the Help link and you will be able to change your password or email address, or get an email reminder of your password. Improvements are happening almost daily, so stop on by, take a tour of the fossils, and share in the forum discussions. Enjoy your new Museum!
