Museum Search Tips

Quick Start: Searching by Description A quick way to get started is to search for words in the specimens' descriptions. For example, if you want to see all the shark fossils, you can ignore the rest of the page and just type shark in the Description box.

Search Description: (enter search words)

Then press the "Start the Tour" button and off you go. If you want to see all the shark fossils that are not tiger sharks, you can type

Search Description: (enter search words)

There is a little "gotcha" in this in that words of three characters or less are ignored, so searching on "shark -big" is the same as searching with "shark".

If you want to be more precise in your search you can use the selection menus. You don't have to make a selection for every option, only the ones that count for you. For example, if you want to see all the Crocodilian fossils, you don't have to enter the Kingdom, Phylum, etc. Just go to the "Order" selector and select "Crocodilia". Then press the "Start the Tour" button.

As you make more selections remember that you are asking for all of the conditions to be satisfied, so you may not want to be too limiting. I hope you enjoy your Museum!
